The train services were runnin late by 15-20 minutes as the signal failure happened at 6.33pm. The problem was rectified by 7pm, but commuters complained that the trains were moving at a snail pace for a long time.

Confirming the failure, a CR official requesting anonymity said, "There was a signal failure, but it was attended within half hour and the services resumed soon after that. Some trains must be delayed but there was no major disruption."

However, commuters complained of chaos and rush in trains and on platforms. The lack of announcements at the railway stations added to the confusion. "The Kurla station is packed; there is no space to stand on regular days and incase of such failure, the situation gets worst. If the railways can't increase the number of train services, they should at least ensure that there are no disruptions,: said Beniz Swamy, a Chembur resident.
