The victim had become pregnant when she was 13-year-old and the accused forced her to have an abortion, the police said.

The prolonged assault came to light only after the victim confided in her friend who convinced her to lodge a complaint with the police, the police said.

“The victim stated that her father, a widower, had gagged and raped her for the first time when she was 10 years old.

When he realised that she did not have the courage to take action against him, the accused continued the frequent sexual assault for nine years,” said RS Khakale, senior inspector of Nirmal Nagar police station.

The police have booked him for rape and assault. He was produced before a court on Monday, which remanded him in police custody till Friday.
