Mumbai seeks Australia’s help to tackle the drought

Experts from Australia’s eWater organisation will make a presentation on Tuesday to the water resources and conservation departments on enhancing availability in both rural and urban areas.

The seriousness of the drought can be assessed by the fact that there was just 16% water stock in the state’s dams on Monday.

Central Maharashtra had 6 per cent average stock followed by 11 per cent in North Maharashtra. Pune division had 15 per cent, Nagpur 28 per cent and Amravati 22% storage.

Around 10,000 villages are being supplied drinking water through tankers.

The interaction has been facilitated by the Australian High Commission. On Tuesday a delegation led by eWater’s deputy chief executive Dr Robert Carr, will meet water resources principal secretary Malini Shankar and other officials.

According to information available, in Australia, eWater has been instrumental in managing water through hydrological modelling platform, which includes provision of long-term maintenance and improvements to source.
