A 15-year-old girl was attacked with a knife by a man in Virar after she rejected his love proposal.
Officials at the Virar police station said the incident took place near the girl’s Manvelpada residence around 6.50 am.
The accused confronted the girl and after an argument attacked her with a vegetable peeler, officials said.
“The girl has sustained injuries and is admitted in the hospital. We are recording the statement of the girl’s mother and will register an FIR under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for attempt to murder,” said an officer from Virar police station.
Officials said the assailant has been stalking the teenager for over a fortnight.
“Around a fortnight ago, he followed the girl to confess his love for her. When the girl rejected his advances, they got into a verbal spat and she pushed him. Locals, who had gathered there, thrashed him,” said assistant inspector Manoj Landge, Palghar police spokesperson.
The assailant left from the spot and threatened to harm the girl.
Meanwhile, the girl is admitted in the Sanjeevani Hospital, police sources said. Officials will talk to her once she is in a condition to provide her statement, said another officer.
