Murder convicts smash windows after hearing

A hearing at the Thane sessions court took a violent turn, after five persons convicted of murder and given life terms smashed windowpanes along the corridor of the court on Monday, after the verdict was pronounced.

A hearing at the Thane sessions court took a violent turn, after five persons convicted of murder and given life terms smashed windowpanes along the corridor of the court on Monday, after the verdict was pronounced.

One of the convicts, Gaikwad, allegedly broke the windowpanes with his handcuffs. "They were angry. The accused suffered injuries," said public prosecutor Hemlata Deshmukh. However, police and jail officials were unaware of the incident.

The five, along with three others, had allegedly stolen scrap worth Rs 4,000 from an MSEDCL power house and killed a police constable at Rabale, in 2007.
