Civic chief Subodh Kumar will officially remain in office for another three months. The Union government approved the state’s request for granting the extension.
HT had reported on Tuesday that Kumar was likely to get an extension for his tenure. He was to retire on January 31.
Last week, state election commissioner Neela Satyanarayan had asked the state government to explain why it failed in seeking her approval before sending the proposal to the Centre.
Satyanarayan argued that Kumar was administrative incharge of the civic polls. The government said that Satyanarayan’s nod was not required as Kumar was not directly involved in the election process.
