Note in bedroom: Can’t live, but will die together

Preliminary investigations have revealed two conflicting versions of the incident, the police said.

While the accused, Jayesh Goswami, has claimed in what was meant to be a suicide note that he was in a relationship with Sonal, her husband Hetal Goyani has denied the claim.
The police said that they found the note written by Goswami in Sonal’s bedroom. “It states that Sonal’s husband used to torture her and that she and Jayesh were in an intimate relationship for the last two years. Because they could not get married and spend their lives together, they had decided to die together,” said Mahesh Patil, deputy commissioner of police (zone 11).
The note adds that it was Sonal’s voluntary decision to be murdered by the accused. “Jayesh wrote in the note that Sonal had asked Jayesh to kill her, and then himself,” said Patil.
Goyani, however, has given a contradictory version.
According to the police, he has said that Sonal told him after the incident that Goswami arrived at their residence and begged her to let him in.
Sonal relented, and he slit her throat, Goyani is said to have told the police.
He also told police that Goswami had been troubling his wife for the past three months.
“Hetal said that Jayesh had been harassing his wife for the past three months because he was in love with her. He said that he had had an argument with Jayesh over the issue two months ago,” said Patil.
The police, however, said that it is too early to comment on the validity of either of the versions.
“We do not know if Jayesh wrote the note before he slit Sonal’s throat or after she escaped and locked him inside the house. As of now, we cannot say who is telling the truth. But we have registered a case against Jayesh for attempt to murder and the investigation is in progress,” said Patil.
