To make college admissions easier for students, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday said it was no longer mandatory for students to get photocopies of marksheets attested by government-recognised public notaries.

Minister of state for education Fauzia Khan, who sent the proposal to Chavan, said, “Usually, we see students running around and even spending money to get attestations which will now not be needed.”

Currently, schools provide students with attested copies of the marksheets in a few days. But in many cases, students get them attested from authorised notaries.

Khan said that under the new rule, students will have to attach self-attested marksheet copies with the admission forms, and only after the students get admission will special education officers of colleges verify the copies.

Khan has also proposed a change in the rules governing the eligibility of these special education officers.
