People ransack 42 vehicles

In an incident of rioting that took place near the campus of IIT Powai in Mumbai early on Saturday, a group of unidentified people targeted around 42 vehicles that were stationed there.

In an incident of rioting that took place near the campus of IIT Powai in Mumbai early on Saturday, a group of unidentified people targeted around 42 vehicles that were stationed there.

According to the officials of Powai police, at around 5.30 am, around eight people alleged to be activists of a political party ransacked around 42 vehicles that included several auto rickshaws, Tata Sumo car, Maruti 800 vehicle and some busses.

Following the attack, the locals managed to catch one of the attackers, who was later identified as 27-year-old Sandeep Pawar, a resident of Powai.

The attack was said to be protest against the incessant parking of the vehicles at the campus gate located near the Nihal Hospital.

The police have filed a non cognisable complaint in connection with the incident and are probing the case.

Senior police inspector of Powai police station Ashok Jadhav said, “ The locals alleged that members of a political party behind the incident. However so far nothing of that sort has come to the fore.”
