Personal items handed over to families of Mangalore air crash victims
Air India today said it has handed over identified personal items to the families of the Mangalore plane crash victims.
Air India on Thursday said it has handed over identified personal items to the families of the Mangalore plane crash victims.
Besides, the national carrier is also cataloguing the unassociated/unidentified items, including gold and other precious items, recovered by the police from the crash site, the airline said in a release in Mumbai.
As many as 158 people, including all six crew members, aboard an Air India Express flight from Dubai were killed when the aircraft overshot the runway at Mangalore and plunged into a ravine. Eight passengers had survived the May 22 crash.
Air India had appointed US-based disaster management agency Kenyon International to identify the personal effects recovered from the crash site.
A special humanitarian assistance team, 'Angels of Air India', handed over the identified personal items, it said.
The cataloguing work of the unassociated/unidentified items is being carrying out by Kenyon International. Once the exercise is completed, the families of the victims would be contacted for the identification and subsequent handing over of the items, Air India said.
The airline has also sought help from the Mangalore Air Crash Victims Families' Association in the identification of belongings.
