Four days after arresting a management graduate from Lokhandwala for cheating an Andheri businessman’s wife, the police called her husband for questioning.
Parmeet Arora told the Amboli police that she had given more than Rs 20 lakh of the Rs 50 lakh she had allegedly swindled to her husband.
“Arora said she had cheated the victim as she wanted the money to pay her husband who had been demanding money from her parents,” said Machindra Bodhke, police inspector.
Arora and her husband have filed for divorce and their case is on at the Bandra family court.
“We have called Arora’s husband for questioning. We are trying to find out why he was demanding money from her and if he was aware how she had got the money.”
Arora had met businessman Parag Sanghvi’s wife at a kitty party and convinced her to invest in mutual funds for her two children. She paid two cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to Arora, which were deposited in the mutual fund account. Arora managed to encash the cheques collectively worth Rs 50 lakh.
The police said Arora has confessed to have cheated the woman of Rs 50 lakh but denied having stolen ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh from her house.
The police are finding it difficult to interrogate Arora, as she has not been eating properly since her arrest.
“After pus started oozing out of her ears, she had to be briefly admitted to a hospital. If she is kept in hospital for a longer period, our investigation will be hampered as we have her custody only till October 27,” said Bodhke.
