The Goa cabinet, on Monday, proposed two routes — the Panjim-Mumbai route and Panjim-Karwar route — to connect the two states by sea. The Mumbai-Goa water transport facility on these routes was discontinued after practical difficulties arose. If approved, the service could terminate at either Gateway of India or the Ferry Wharf in Mumbai.

“We haven’t received the proposal yet but we don’t have any problem implementing it,” said S Shinde, managing director, Mumbai Maritime Board. State officials aren’t keen on this project. “A waterways project could be costly. It would require more travel time and fares would be high too,” said an official.
