Propose hike or face strike, says taxi union

Days before the one-man Hakim Committee submits its report on the restructuring of autorickshaw and taxi fares, the Mumbai Taximens Union led by AL Quadros has begun using pressure tactics to lobby for a favourable tariff revision.

Days before the one-man Hakim Committee submits its report on the restructuring of autorickshaw and taxi fares, the Mumbai Taximens Union led by AL Quadros has begun using pressure tactics to lobby for a favourable tariff revision.

On Saturday, Quadros threatened a strike if the report does not accommodate the union's demand for a Rs. 3 increase in basic fare.

"We have not yet decided how big the strike will be, but if the proposed tariff hike is unacceptable, we will go on strike," Quadros said.
