She was adjudged winner among the 15 other participants of the rangoli-making competition held inside the jail on Friday.

Byculla jail was brimming with creativity as undertrials readied to participate in various competitions and games.

A singing competition was held for the inmates’ children.

Surendra Kumar, inspector general of prisons, said the annual pre-Diwali events were organised inside the Byculla jail by Sevadham, an NGO, which holds similar competitions at prisons across the state.

“Such competitions were held to lighten the atmosphere in the prison,” added Kumar.

“We believe in spreading harmony among the inmates and keeping that in mind we organise such games and competitions where teamwork is required,” said Pushpa Kadam, a member of the NGO.

“These women have a lot of talent and through such competitions they get a chance to display them and also get an opportunity to smile,” she said.
