Run along Marine Drive to promote education

Twelve-year-old school girl Anushka Yewale has been getting up early and going for jogs all of this week. She also spends most of her time convincing her classmates to join her for the Young Mumbai Run marathon.

This mini marathon, organised exclusively for children in the age group of 12 to 18 years, will be held on February 24. The four-km run will start at 7.15am from National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

Organised by Secure Giving in aid of Concern India Foundation (CIF), a nonprofit charitable trust, this marathon aims at encouraging education opportunities for underprivileged kids. "I am really privileged to receive good education and I want others also to have this chance," said Anushka, who had also participated last year.

Over 1,500 children have already registered for the run. "Education is an important component in every child's development. The objective of Young Mumbai Run is to use sports as a medium to sensitise regular school-going children about the education needs of underprivileged children," said Amita Munshi, head of communications at CIF.
