Residents heard the news even as civic demolition teams began inspection of the premises. The demolition teams were forced to leave following the SC order.

Jubilant residents celebrated the development by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Residents will, however, have to submit an affidavit stating they will evacuate their homes by the end of five months.

They were also restrained from filing any petition in the high court or subordinate courts against the order to vacate their flats.
