‘School authorities did not take him to the hospital’

“I forgive whoever is responsible for the incident, as what has happened cannot be altered. My son is gone forever,” said a sobbing Tehseen Tayyani, mother of 12-year-old Hamza Siddiqui Tayyani, who was run over by his school bus on Wednesday afternoon and later died.

The mother of the victim, a Class 6 student of CD Barfiwala High School, Andheri, is inconsolable.

Tehseen’s relatives, however, cannot stop talking about how they feel “betrayed” by the school. Farhana, a distant relative who stays in the same locality as the Tayyanis said, “The school authorities just called up the parents and said that their child had been injured. They did not even bother to take him to the hospital.”

“There have been similar incidents in the school compound even in the past. The school should get their act right,” Farhana further alleged.

Relatives added that Hamza was the eldest of the three sons of the Tayyanis. Hamza’s brothers are aged four and two. “He was a cheerful boy and very good at studies as well,” they said.

The family added that Hamza had shifted to the school only a year ago. While some said that necessary action should be taken against those responsible for the accident, those close to the boy’s family said that they were too emotionally shattered to take a decision.
