The police said Afsana Salim Shaikh was hit by the bus when the driver was reversing.

The police arrested and the driver, Shivaji Bhosale, 48, for rash and negligent driving. Shaikh was a resident of Dargha Road, Kasarwadavali,

Thane (West) and was a Class 6 student of Rajashri Shahu Maharaj School at Bhayandar Pada.

Pramod Khade, senior police inspector said, “Afsana was waiting for her bus at Anandnagar Chowk. The driver of another school bus that was in front of her was reversing the vehicle, when a rear tyres ran over the girl. She suffered injuries on her head and died on the spot.”

Khade added that the school bus had no cleaner to guide the driver and thus they have also booked Bhosale for negligence. The RTO rule says a school bus should have a cleaner. The police confirmed that the driver was not drunk.

Shaikh’s uncle Amjed Shaikh said, “Afsana had missed her bus though was unaware of it and was waiting at her stop. She did not see the other bus reversing because she was looking the other way. Since the bus had no cleaner, we have decided to take action against the school.”
