A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the chief cook Frentionno Fransisco, a native of Philippines, and he will be produced in the court on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Frentionno stabbed Ronny Sugulan, a third engineer of the merchant vessel, after an altercation.
The incident happened about 95 nautical miles from Mumbai coast while the ship was on passage from Singapore to Navlakhi port in Gujarat.

The crewmembers of the vessel reported the incident to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Mumbai. An Indian Coast Guard interceptor boat C-145 evacuated the injured crewmember, who was later admitted to the intensive care unit at Masina Hospital in Byculla.

Kaiser Khalid, deputy commissioner of police (Port Zone), said: "We will question the accused to find out what exactly lead to the incident. We have alerted the concerned consulate about the incident involving their nationals."
The police will question other crewmembers on the vessel.

"Once we are through the procedure, we would take a call on, if the vessel can be allowed to sail," added Khalid.
Police sources said Sugulan was stable and was recovering.
