Students of Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School had plenty to be pleased about as they won a host of events on the second day of the Association of ICSE Schools in Maharashtra (AISM) Athletic Championship on Tuesday.
Athletes from the school secured first place in the long jump and 200m races across various age categories and in addition to the march past competition which they had won the previous day.
"We have always had a very strong showing at the Maharashtra tournament, as our students are very keen on sports. Some of our athletes who suffered injuries and were unable to take part in the track and field events used the march past as an opportunity to represent their school," said Dattatray Tarde, the school's physical education teacher.
Fifty-six ICSE schools from the state sent over 1700 athletes to the meet, which was organised by Yellow Fire Communications in association with Hindustan Times. The three-day tournament, which is being held at Priyadarshini Park, near Malabar Hill, will end on Wednesday with the declaration of an overall winning school. or some students, a chance to participate was reason enough to be excited. Rani Saklecha, a Class 7 student of Ryan International School, Malad, is the fastest runner in her school, but was unable to qualify for the semi-finals of the 200m race. "The competition here is really tough. But my friends and I are having a great time because this is a change from being cooped up in a classroom," she said.
