Visitors at the park could soon get to go rappelling in the hills around Kanheri Caves and try mountain biking inside the national park, if the state government sanctions a proposal made by park authorities.

"Usually, visitors who come to the park just walk around, take the safari, have snacks, relax and then head home. Introducing some adventure sports will get them to have to fun along with some adrenaline rush," said Sunil Limaye, director, SGNP.

Limaye is working on the plan, finalising the kinds of adventure sports that can be introduced and various feasibility issues. A detailed proposal will be sent to the principal chief conservator of forests in Nagpur by November-end.

The activities would be restricted to the tourism zones within the park premises.

Adventure sports are proposed to be introduced at Kanheri Caves and the abandoned quarries at Manpada.

"We hope this plan gets approved because people will be able to understand forests better and the area will also be well protected," said Limaye.
