A speeding Porsche hit a 25-year-old delivery boy on a scooter, injuring him, at Marine Drive on Monday evening.

The police said Ankesh Shahara, 25, the son of a managing director with a private industry, was reportedly driving drunk. He was arrested soon after the accident.

At 5pm, the Marine Drive police said, the Porsche hit Aimul Haq, who is a delivery boy with Zaffran Restaurant near Crawford Market, and his scooter’s rear tyre burst and he got thrown off.

Haq has been admitted to GT Hospital as his right leg has been badly injured.

“Shahara was reeking of alcohol when he was brought to the police station,” said sub-inspector SS More of the Marine Drive. His medical examination report was awaited till late in the evening, More added.

Doctors conducted a surgery on Haq’s leg. He has been placed in the intensive care unit, a hospital’s medical officer said on condition of anonymity.

This year, until April 13, the traffic police have booked 3,891 motorists for drink driving of which 1,628 were sentenced to simple imprisonment and the licences of 2,263 suspended.
