One of the doctor’s from the hospital had raped a 30-year-old woman, who was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Sunday.

According to Dr D Paropkari, medical officer of health, “Lotus Multi Speciality Hospital and ICU were registered with NMMC under the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act (BNHRA), 1949, Section on April 1, 2010, vide registration number 157.”

Justifying the show cause notice, Paropkari said, “A case has been registered against the Dr Vishal Vanne for allegedly raping the patient. The hospital had not informed us of the appointment of the said doctor in the hospital. Hence, we have no idea if the doctor is educationally qualified for the post.”

According to Paropkari, it was a case of violation of BNHRA. “So, we have issued a month’s show-cause notice for cancellation of registration of the hospital,” he added

Based on the hospital’s reply further action is expected to be taken. The hospital management was not available for comment.
