MUMBAI: Suburban services on Harbour line were badly hit on Tuesday after morning peak hours, when the pantograph of a locomotive got entangled with an overhead wire near Mahim station.

A pantograph is an instrument placed on the roof, which draws power from overhead wires for trains.

The incident occurred around 11.10am, in the jurisdiction of Wester n Railway, between Mahim-Mumbai central merge with the Harbour line Kings Circle-Mahim stations.

It badly affected suburban traffic on Harbour line that provided railway connectivity to Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, for about an hour. Railway sources said the incident disrupted suburban services on Harbour line until late in the afternoon.

Suburban services were running at least 10-20 minutes behind schedule, while 15 suburban services were cancelled. CR sources said the services on Harbour line resumed around 12.15pm, while a WR spokesperson claimed services were resumed within half an hour. “The services on the route resumed around 11.45pm,” said a WR spokesperson.
