The Vashi police on Friday arrested Dinesh Singhdad, 18, for allegedly raping a 28-year-old woman around ten days back.

The woman has a deformity in her leg.

Ramesh Choudhary, police inspector of Vashi police station, said: “The rape allegedly took place 10 days ago. When the woman’s parents noticed that she was quieter than usual they suspected something was wrong. On being persistently questioned, she said that she had been raped.”

He said that the alleged rape took place in Sector-8 of Vashi. “The boy [Singhdad] delivers tiffins and works at a tea stall in the neighbourhood. He would pass by the woman’s house regularly,” he added. The police are investigating whether the accused and the woman had engaged in consensual sex.
