“Files were strewn all over, but neither valuables nor paperwork were missing,” Hegde said.

An employee of his said on condition of anonymity that this was the second burglary attempt in three months at the office. “Around three months ago, thieves had broken in and stolen a computer,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dadar) Madhukar Sankhe said: “The incident took place at 3.35 am. Two constables patrolling the area saw the bank’s shutter broken and a Maruti Esteem parked outside. As they approached the bank, three men rushed out and fled.” Inside, they found a locker prised open and files on the floor.

“However, nothing was missing,” said Sankhe.

“We examined the CCTV footage, but since it was dark the cameras captured nothing.”
