This summer, let's get having fun down to a science

"The mechanics behind making a robot got me interested in the subject. It is only because of robotics that I have started liking science. I have also developed my own video game," said Harnessvala who has enrolled for the robotics camp organised by Dhamaal Kids at Vashi and Igatpuri again this year.

The camp is a five-day residential programme that teaches participants how to develop video games and the science behind robotics, along with trekking, storytelling, star gazing and games. Camp organiser Archana Kshmkalyani said: "The idea behind a residential camp is to help reinforce the concepts learned in class through later interactions."

It's the first year in the city for Science Utsav, a five-day program on science organised by Unique Science Summer Camps. Organiser Sonal Ghelani said: "The idea behind experimental learning is to expose kids to the practical application of science as schools do not give Class 7 students much access to science laboratories."

Last year, Prerna Shah from Dadar enrolled her three-year-old son Arav in Spooky Science, a science camp organised by Toddler Activity Centre, Worli. The camp teaches basic concepts using magnets, iron and fruits. "The camp feeds his curiosities," said Shah. If toddlers can pick up basic science, pre-teens can learn to create their own blogs on nature. Kids Domain Learning Centre, run by Poonam Korani, includes writing blogs on environment and technology. "Creating their own blog will give them a chance to share their knowledge and experiences with others through the written word," said Korani.
