While the game was on, the ball fell in the river when one of the three brothers went into the waters searching for it.

"One after the other, all the three went into the water. After a while there was no response from all the three. Other children rushed to their family members informing about the incident," said a police officer at Kurla police station.

Police and fire brigade officials were notified, after which, bodies of the children were fished out from the river, police said. The bodies were taken to a nearby Bhabha hospital.

Police said the locals were alleging that the incident occurred as there was no protection wall.
