This collapsed the morning peak hour services on the Western Railway in the morning. The incident occurred at 5.55 am. This led to the diversion of slow Virar-bound trains to the fast line as a safety measure for 45 minutes.

The yard line was cleared at 7.15am. The local trains were run about 15 minutes late due to the problem and 15 services were cancelled. The trains ran normally from 11 am. A departmental inquiry is being conducted. “Four wheels of a coach of an empty EMU rake derailed at 05.55 hours at Mahalaxmi station. The local trains ran late by about 15 minutes due to bunching and 15 trains were cancelled,” said Western railway officials said.
