Truck knocks down 30-year-old biker at Kurla flyover signal

MUMBAI: A 30-year-old man riding a two wheeler was killed after being knocked down by a truck at the Kurla flyover signal on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Asif Mukadam, 30, a resident of Mankhurd, who was riding an Activa. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the mishap.

Mukadam, who works with a private firm, was heading northbound when he was knocked down by the truck. “There is a one witness who has come forward and he is also a truck driver. He saw the accident as he was just behind the truck which was involved in the accident,” said a police officer from Nehru Nagar police station.

The truck driver sped away without extending any help to the accident victim. Police were informed about the accident following which they reached the spot. “Mukadam was unconscious and was taken to a nearby hospital by police where he was declared dead,” said the officer.

The police suspect t hat Mukadam may have fallen on the road after losing control of the two wheeler after being knocked down by a speeding truck that dashed him from behind.

Mukadam’s family members told police that he left home for some work in the morning. The accident occurred at around 8.25am. “Mukadam sustained grievous injuries on his head,” the officer added.

The unidentified accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304 A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) along with section 134 (a) (b) of the Motor Vehicle Act for fleeing the spot instead of providing immediate help to the accident victim.
