On November 26 night, Antonita Merry Kausti (65) and her physically disabled daughter Betty Verghese (40) were found murdered at their isolated villa in Malvani, Malad.

As Mohammed Riyaz and Idris Khan, who were working with the family for two weeks, were found missing, the police suspected them.

The police learnt that they hailed from Uttar Pradesh, a team was sent there and arrested the duo from Jhansi station. The accused were brought to the city on Sunday. They reportedly confessed to having killed their employers because they refused to give them money to go to their hometown for a family wedding. “Mohammed needed the money for his sister-in-law’s marriage,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Banerjee. The duo claimed the women would often abuse them and use foul language.

Additional Commissioner of Police (north region) RE Pawar said: “We have still not been able to ascertain the stolen amount.”
