“In the first half of the day, a seven-member team of the Bank visited Dadar and Borivli stations. In the latter half, there was a meeting about financial management and governance. The utilisation of the balance WB loan was also discussed,” said a senior official of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC).

According to sources, the WB team was trying to understand the problem of commuters crossing tracks, owing to which many lose their lives. The team took a stock of ground realities, and looked into possible solutions suggested in a presentation by students of Sir JJ School of Architecture on Monday.

Confirming the inspection, an MRVC spokesperson mentioned that the team might have some opinions or suggestions, which are expected in its report. Sir JJ School of Architecture, in its study report based on 12 stations, including Dadar and Borivli, suggested various measures like building foot overbridges and ramps, which are estimated to cost around Rs. 90crore.

Every year, more than 3,500 people die on railway tracks, of which most are killed while crossing them.
