The officials — who are also probing if the accused is the same as the one behind the rape and murder of three girls at Colaba and Cuffe Parade — have sent the semen sample of the accused from the victim’s vaginal swab to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Kalina.

An officer from the crime branch that is conducting parallel investigations in the case said, “Similar to the earlier cases in 2010 and 2011, the victim hailed from a poor family which slept on the road. We have sent the semen sample of the accused to the FSL to check if it matches with the accused in the Colaba and Cuffe Parade murders.”

An officer from the Worli police station said that they have rounded up around 10-15 drug addicts and taxi drivers from the area for questioning.

“We have also asked for DNA tests to be conducted on some of the suspects,” said an officer from Worli police station.
