Pawar was travelling with a police team to Nagpada police station along with his foster mother Sunita Deshpande to lay a trap for the accused in the house breaking case. Police sources said Pawar knew one of the accused, Abdul. Sources added that Pawar asked the cops to stop their vehicle at a bridge near Mumbai Central. “Without any warning he jumped from the bridge grievously injuring himself,” said the source.

“We have not been able to determine the reason behind the attempted suicide,” added the source. Pawar has been admitted to Nair Hospital and is in a critical condition. In her statement, Deshpande told the Nagpada police that she was shocked about Pawar’s extreme action.

“Further investigations are on in the house breaking case and we will be able to proceed further in the case once Pawar has recovered,” said Assistant Commissioner of police Dilip Suryavanshi. Police officials also suspect that Pawar himself could have been involved in the case and therefore decided to end his life for fear of being exposed.
