“We suspect that the boy may have consumed poison. We are awaiting the results of chemical analysis test. So, the cause of death has been withheld in the post-mortem report,” said G Pable, sub-inspector of Cuffe Parade police station.
“We will be able to ascertain it only after we get the report,” he said.
Rao a student of Siddharth College in Fort, lived near Thakurdwara in south Mumbai. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of his neighbours told the Hindustan Times, that Rao has been depressed for some time.
“Harshad was a commerce student and was in his second year of graduation. He had failed in one of his papers and so was depressed since,” said the neighbour.
According to the police, Rao had been missing from his residence since Monday.
“A missing complaint was registered by Rao’s family on Monday,” said senior police inspector Avinash Sonawane of LT Marg police station.
“Prima facie, it seemed like a case of drowning. We are investigating the case from all possible angles,” said Pable.
