Theatre lovers can get to see 10 of the finest plays from across India in the city next week. Starting from March 1, these plays will be performed as a run up to the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) Festival on March 7. Currently in it’s seventh year, META got 286 entries from across India as opposed to 11 in 2006 — it’s first year, though no group from Delhi made it to the nominations.

Classical Mix
META begins with The 39 Steps, a comic tribute to Alfred Hitchcock and larger than life Hollywood heroes of the 1930’s and 40’s on March 1. Then, there are classic family dramas like Adhe Adhure by Lilette Dubey on March 3, Baghdad Wedding by Akarsh Khurana on March 4, and, A Far Cry by Ningthouja Deepak from Manipur on March 6. “This is my first Hindi play. That’s why I’m excited about it,” says Dubey.

The audience will also get to see theatre veterans Alyque Padamsee and Sabira Merchant together on stage after 20 years in The Game. It shows two strangers discovering life over a game of cards.
