Lady Gaga remains at the top of the pop world after earning three honours at the MTV Europe awards in Madrid on Sunday evening.

Just one of 12 awards went to a European artist — German band Tokio Hotel won for best appearance on the programme MTV World Stage.
Justin Bieber was named best male artist, and other kudos went to Linkin Park, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Paramore, Eminem and Ke$ha. Katy Perry won just one prize — best video for California Gurls.
