The headlining acts in Mumbai at the Jazz Utsav 2010 in December this year is as diverse as the rich concoct of World Music and Jazz One, a trio of Electronica World Musicians, a solo trumpeter who likes to jam with the audience, a renowned percussionist and a soul singer.

The Utsav this year has a line-up, with bands and artistss from Italy, Norway, The Netherlands, U.S.A, Germany and Poland. Talvin Singh’s jazz outfit with Murcoff and Etic Truffaz, Larry Carlton, Trumpeter Saskia Laroo from Amsterdam, Ranjit Barot and his band, Jazzkomplott from Germany, Mateusz Kolakowski Trio from Poland, Mari Kvien Brunvoll and Gumbo from Norway and city’s Louiz Banks will be playing this year.

Each of the artistes have been to India at least once and they all feel the nation has an appetite for Jazz, this considering what they play is fusion of Indian and world music. “Indian music is very deep and spiritual. It’s all played in reverence of the almighty. The idea of the raga is all about worshipping nature and human emotions. It’s macro/micro,” explains Laroo, who played at the opening of Jazz Utsav recently.

“This is my eight visit to the country and I love the people and the food here. I have always played to an audience that has involved me. I like to invite people on stage and we end up jamming something interesting. Always makes for a great memory,” adds Laroo.
