Neha’s time to go solo
Pop singer Neha Bhasin the former member of Viva band is back with a vengeance with her upcoming solo release Taabah.
Pop singer Neha Bhasin the former member of

Viva
band is back with a vengeance. Known popularly as the
desi
‘spice girls’, the band split up abruptly in 2002, leaving their fans with a void in their heart. Bhasin says, “The reason behind the split is exactly that of a broken marriage or a break up…disagreements and disillusionment.” But now is the time to move ahead and she is looking forward to her upcoming solo release
Taabah
.
We asked her about the pessimistic title. To which, she says, “
Taabah
was the first song Gaurav Dayal (
Dil Le Gayi
of Jassi’s fame) and I wrote on the album; it was me coming out of the dark phase of my life. This album helped me move on, so in that sense sunlight dawned upon me after destruction, hence
Taabah
.”
Isn’t eight years a long time for her come back? And she says promptly, “I was 20 when
Viva
split up. New to Mumbai and the ways of the world, I needed the right backing and support system to do this again.” While her ex-band member Anushka Manchanda is going places in the Bollywood industry, Bhasin is least bothered about her success.
The track
Kuch Khass Hai
(
Fashion
), which was one of the biggest hit of 2008, got her a film fare nomination and she says, “It’s a great recognition.” Neha feels deeply for the lost soul of the pop music scene in India and blames the record labels and the glamour industry for the end of that era. However she is hopeful that with her debut album she can at least do her bit. Her future projects include a tour with her troupe starting next month.
