LUCKNOW: The crisis in the Samajwadi Party seems to have blown over with UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday congratulating his uncle Shivpal Yadav on his appointment as SP’s state president.

The CM also returned key departments to Shivpal but retained the most important portfolio of PWD with himself. He also recommended governor Ram Naik the re-induction of dismissed minister for mining Gayatri Prasad Prajapati.

Early on Saturday, Akhilesh went to Shivpal’s house for lunch and later asked his supporters gathered outside to end their agitation.

“I want to congratulate the new state president (Shivpal Singh Yadav). All of you have worked together and will have to continue working hand in hand,” Akhilesh told his supporters. “We are united, there is no rift in Samajwadi party,” he added.

MULAYAM BACKS SHIVPAL

Addressing the ‘unruly and indisciplined youth wing workers’, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, “In 2012, Shivpal had suggested that I should become chief minister for the fourth time and crown Akhilesh after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Akhilesh has been cross with Shivpal since then.”

He said, “But, in retrospect, I think Shivpal was right. And Lok Sabha polls defeat was proof of it. Who was the chief minister when we lost 2014? We got only five seats. Can you even imagine how humiliated I felt? Once, when I was the chief minister, we had 27 seats and in another tenure, our Lok Sabha tally was 39. What tally did we get in 2014? Just five. We were ruined.”

He added, “Fine, he is my son. Had I not agreed, he would not have become CM ever. All must learn that once you are at a high post, you should learn to take everyone along, shouldn’t nurture ego, must also learn to tolerate criticism. What all did Akhilesh do before 2012 polls than ride bicycle?”
