ED officials in a statement said that a new case was registered due to their findings in their investigation. A case has already been registered under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The statement also said that as per the permission granted by the Special Court in an earlier case registered under the provisions of PMLA, a team of ED officers are in the process of visiting the Luksar jail in Greater Noida for recording the statements of Mittal’s father, Sunil, who was arrested by Uttar Pradesh special task force on April 8.

A day after the special investigation team (SIT) filed a chargesheet, comprising nearly 35,000 pages, against Anubhav Mittal and five others in an alleged Ponzi scheme, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday filed another FIR against Mittal and his associates.

Mittal is alleged to have run a Ponzi scheme through a series of ‘fake’ companies and allegedly duped around 6.5 lakh investors of Rs3,700 crore.

“He is alleged to have misused expired/forged ISO Certificates for portraying the business of his company as genuine to the public as well as government agencies. An application for taking remand of Anubhav Mittal has been moved before the court concerned for his custodial interrogation, in the light of the new facts that have emerged during the investigation by the ED, especially with respect to new bank accounts, companies and agents that have come to notice,” ED officials said in a statement.

In the previous case, properties worth Rs599.28 crore were attached by ED on March 31. The official sources said that more properties acquired with the funds collected by Mittal and his associates are being identified and more attachments may follow.

In the chargesheet submitted before the additional chief judicial magistrate (II) in Gautam Budh Nagar, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had named five more persons — Ablaze CEO Shreedhar Prasad, technical head Mahesh Dayal, Sunil, Anubhav’s wife Ayushi and Atul Mishra, a bank official.

Ayushi had obtained a stay of arrest while the rest were already arrested by the Special Task Force. Atul Mishra, a relationship manager with a private bank was arrested on charges of aiding Mittal.

After the arrests of Mittal, Prasad and Dayal on February 2, the ED also registered a case under the provisions of PMLA and started probing money laundering charges.
