The Ghaziabad police has lodged an FIR against four constables of the ‘crime team’ of the Indirapuram police station after they allegedly picked up four men from a BPO in Sector 64, Noida, and placed them under wrongful confinement.
The four constables were identified as Sudhir Kumar, Srikant, Narayan and Shamim.
The four men were allegedly picked up over the suspicion that they were involved in extortion of money.
The officials said the FIR was lodged based on a complaint forwarded by the family members of one of the four men, who were allegedly picked up around 1am on Sunday from their office.
The officials said that two of the constables were from Kavi Nagar, while one each was from Sahibabad police station and police lines. They were part of the team formed to control crime and had also recently busted a gang of vehicle-lifters and recovered 25 motorcycles.
“The constables picked up the four who had just completed their college and were running the BPO. They were brought to a police post and confined illegally. Upon information, we rushed to the police post and found the men there. Thereafter, the information was passed on to the senior superintendent of police, who immediately suspended the four policemen,” said Sudesh Gupta, circle officer (Indirapuram).
After the suspension, the officials also lodged an FIR under Sections of wrongful confinement and putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion at the Indirapuram police station.
“They (the policemen) had gone to a different district (GB Nagar) after receiving information about a fake BPO being run there. They did not inform any officer concerned. Further action will also be initiated against the four constables,” Gupta said.
The incident comes just days after the suspension of eight police personnel of the Sahibabad police station in connection with the death of one Mandeep Singh Negi, who was picked up by the police in a theft case.
Negi was detained at the police station and he later died at the hospital and was cremated as an “unidentified person” despite a missing complaint being lodged by his parents at the Sahibabad police station.
