A group of homebuyers on Sunday protested against developer Gaursons for allegedly altering sanctioned the building layout map in the Gaur City project in sector 4, Greater Noida West.
The protesters gathered around 11 am at A-block in 6th Avenue, Gaur City-1 and shouted slogans against the builder. Buyers said the builder had cheated them because he promised a peaceful residential society, which is now turning into a commercial zone.
The builder is demolishing flats in A-block to make way for shops. The buyers with posters in their hands shouted slogans against Manoj Gaur, managing director of Gaursons. Their slogans read ‘Tanashahi nahi chalegi’ and “Don’t turn flats into shops”, etc.
Gaur City, including the Gaur City-1 Housing Township, is spread over 237 acres of land. It has residential, commercial and institutional properties. The project has around 30,000 flats and 5,000 of them are occupied.
Buyers said the builder was demolishing flats and developing commercial properties, disturbing peace in a residential area.
“The builder had promised there will be flats on the ground floor. And now he is constructing shops after making alterations on the ground floor to make more money. This amounts to cheating because Gaursons promised us a peaceful society with flats on the ground floor. And he is making way for shops to be used for gyms, grocery stores, salons and other commercial activities. The move will make our residential area a thoroughfare as outsiders will throng this residential area for shopping,” said Binesh Chaudhary, a resident of Gaur City.
Echoing similar views, another resident Brij Singh said, “The builder had promised us separate commercial areas, away from the residential towers. But now he is breaking his promise. We filed a complaint to the Greater Noida authority but nothing happened. The officials should take action without delay otherwise the builder will be successful in his plans.”
The builder admitted that he is demolishing flats to build shops.
“We had built flats on the ground floor but now we are converting them into shops because residents need grocery stores, salon, gym and other kinds of shops near their flats. The Greater Noida authority had sanctioned shops on the ground floor. Homebuyers can go to the Greater Noida authority and check the approved sanctioned map. We are providing better maintenance facilities to residents,” said Manoj Gaur, managing director, Gaursons Group.
The Greater Noida authority town planning department said that they make an inspection.
“Let me see into the complaint made by the buyers. We will send a mobile squad to the spot and get the allegations verified. We will take appropriate action if the allegations are proved right,” said Bal Krishan Tripathi, additional chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority.
