Ghaziabad dance trainer arrested for allegedly raping 16-yr-old, his parents held for extortion

The Sahibabad police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old dance trainer for allegedly raping a 16-and-a-half-year-old student who attended his classes. The police said that they have also arrested the accused’s parents, who were allegedly involved in extorting money from the girl.
The police said that the incident came to light when the girl’s family, who live in Shalimar Garden, approached the Sahibabad police and filed a complaint alleging rape and extortion against Sumit Ghosh, alias Rudra, who runs a dance academy in Rajendra Nagar.
“The family said that the accused had been exploiting the girl for nearly one year. He allegedly threatened the girl that he shot some videos of hers and would make them public if she failed to bring him money from home,” Dr Rakesh Mishra, circle officer (Sahibabad), said.
The police have filed an FIR under IPC sections for rape, extortion, issuing threats, criminal conspiracy, and levied provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act following the complaint by the girl’s family.
“Under threat, the girl started bringing money from her house and has paid nearly Rs 1 lakh to the accused till date. When Sumit’s parents came to know about the money, they became involved as well.Once the girl’s family realised there was a lot of money missing from the house, they questioned her. Then they approached the police,” Mishra added.
The police said that they are also searching for the videos which the accused allegedly shot to exploit the minor. The girl is a student of class 12 at a private school in Ghaziabad and was sent for medical examination as part of the investigation, the police said.
