The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said since the wind directions have changed from north-westerly to easterly, the temperature has risen, as is the case with such changes. The north-westerly are usually cold as it enters the NCR from the northern mountain regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Noida on Saturday was 14.2 degrees Celsius, a steep climb from the 10.5 degrees Celsius on Friday. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 26.9 degrees Celsius against 27.8 degrees Celsius the day before.

The average minimum temperature for entire NCR, as recorded at Safdarjung monitoring station in Delhi, was 11 degrees Celsius on Saturday which is two degrees above the season’s average and a climb-up from the 8 degrees Celsius a day earlier.

“The minimum and maximum temperatures will hover around 12 degrees and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Sunday,” said a weather analyst from IMD.

Official added that the morning hours will also see shallow to moderate fog in the coming days.

“Shallow to moderate fog is likely to obstruct visibility during the morning hours. In shallow fog, the visibility stays between 500 and 1,000 metres and in moderate fog, it dips to between 200 and 500 metres,” the analyst said, on condition of anonymity.

According to the weather analysts, however, there is a possibility of another western disturbance– a phenomenon that causes snowfall in the mountains and sometimes rain in NCR – around December 7 and 8.

“The western disturbance is likely to cause good snowfall in the upper reaches of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir on December 7 an 8. The wind directions is likely to change back to north-westerly on or around December 9 which will cause a sharp fall temperature around December 10,” said Mahesh Palawat, director, private weather forecasting agency, Skymet.
