A 35-year-old man was brutally murdered, allegedly by his neighbour for money, on May 20, the police said. The decomposed body of Dharmendra was found by the Phase-2 police of Noida on a complaint by his relative.
Raj Kishore, Dharmendra’s brother-in-law, informed the police on May 23 that he tried calling Dharmendra but he did not receive an answer, following which he decided to visit him at his flat. Upon reaching the flat, Raj got a foul smell from the flat and called the police to get the flat opened.
The police found Dharmendra’s body lying in a pool of blood and registered a case of murder. The police said that they found that the victim was hit with a brick on his head. Initially, the police could not find any clue but after going through the CCTV footage of an ATM kiosk where the victim had gone to withdraw money on May 2, they got a lead.
In the footage, the police spotted Dharmendra’s neighbour, Mukesh Singh, with him. Mukesh was seen noticing the PIN while Dharmendra was busy following the procedure to withdraw money. Mukesh was also seen noticing the total amount in Dharmendra’s account, which was Rs5.26 lakh.
According to the police, the accused murdered Dharmendra in his flat when he was sleeping. Mukesh attacked Dharmendra with a brick and repeatedly struck him on the head, causing his death, the police said.
Mukesh then took Dharmendra’s ATM card and locked the house before leaving. The body was left in the room. The accused used other people to withdraw the money from Dharmendra’s account. The police found this out from the CCTV footage of the ATMs where the withdrawals were done. Mukesh managed to withdraw Rs2.04 lakh, the police said.
Mukesh and Dharmendra lived in the same building. The accused did not run away after the incident, to avoid any suspicions. The police arrested Mukesh on Thursday from the area, near NSEZ. The police also recovered the brick, with blood spots on it, that was used for the murder.
