GREATER NOIDA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL) official, who was on VVIP duty ahead of the President’s visit, was robbed of his car near Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) office.

Police personnel from several districts have been posted at India expo mart for the President’s visit. A carjacking just a few kilometres from the venue has exposed the deteriorating law and order situation in Greater Noida

Nitin Dinkar, sub-divisional officer with BSNL, said, “I was on VVIP duty. Modems and internet connections were being set up at the centre. On Tuesday, around 7 pm, I left the expo mart for my home in the Gautam Buddha University residential complex -- my wife is a hostel warden there.”

“At the market opposite YEIDA office, I stopped my Toyota Etios as my friend had to withdraw cash from the ATM. I was waiting for him when suddenly two men came up to me. One of them had a countrymade pistol. They pulled me out and fled in the car,” Dinkar said.

He immediately called the police control room and a patrolling van arrived in minutes. “I was taken to Pari Chowk police post. I gave them a written complaint and an FIR was lodged around midnight,” Dinkar said.

Dinkar said VVIP staff duty passes -- meant for two BSNL officials -- were also in the car. “I informed the security in-charge and gave him the names of the BSNL staff in whose names the passes were issued. These passes were blocked so that they are not misused by someone to gain entry to the President’s function. Some modems and personal documents were also in the car,” he said.

Police said FIR has been lodged and efforts were on to trace the car. Till Wednesday evening, the car was not traceable.
