Athletes cleared by IAAF can compete under Russian flag in Rio: IOC chief

Russian athletes who pass an individual test by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) can compete under their nation’s flag at the Rio Olympics, the chief of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Tuesday.

“If there are athletes qualified then they will compete as members of the team of the Russian Olympic Committee,” IOC president Thomas Bach told reporters.

Bach dismissed suggestions that Russian track and field stars could compete under a neutral or Olympic flag, as had been suggested when the IAAF extended its ban on Russian track and field stars on Friday.
