The Orlando-based pro signed off with a total of eight-over 150.
It was an ominous start to the proceedings as Atwal stumbled to a bogey on the first. Another bogey followed on the third hole as Atwal made the turn two-over.
The back-nine seemed no better as Atwal continued his bogey spree, dropping two more on the 10th and 12th. He finally found a birdie on the 13th but back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th put paid to any hopes of a revival.
However, he did manage to gain a shot on the closing hole but that wasn't good enough as he missed the cut by a stroke.
Ireland's Graeme McDowell (68) took a two-stroke lead with a total of three-under 139.
