India out of Thomas, Uber Cup

India’s challenge in Thomas and Uber Cup badminton ended with the men’s team losing to Indonesia and the women’s team going down to China in the quarterfinals at Kuala Lumpur’s Putra Stadium.

India’s challenge in Thomas and Uber Cup badminton ended with the men’s team losing to Indonesia and the women’s team going down to China in the quarterfinals at Kuala Lumpur’s Putra Stadium.

Both the men’s and women’s teams lost 0-3 to make an exit from the elite competition.

Saina Nehwal gave a tough fight to Chinese Yihan Wang before losing 21-14, 11-21, 18-21 in nearly an hour.

In women’s doubles, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were no match for Jin Ma and Xiaoli Wang and lost 8-21, 11-21.

In the second singles, Sayali Gokhale was tamed by Xin Wang 21-10, 21-14.

In the men’s event, India lost to Indoensia for the second time in the competition. Parupalli Kashyap again gave a tough fight to former Olympic and World champion Taufiq Hidayat before surrendering 12-21, 21-10, 17-21.

Sanave Thomas and Akshay Dewalkar were defeated 16-21, 17-21 by Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan while Arvind Bhat succumbed to Simon Santoso 8-21, 10-21.
